Android 15 officially launched for Pixel devices on October 15, 2024, bringing a blend of new features and improvements alongside Google’s latest Pixel Feature Drop. This release covers a wide range of devices, including the Pixel 6, 7, 8, and 9 series, as well as the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet models. Users can install the update via the usual over-the-air (OTA) rollout in Settings > System > System update, or they can manually download factory images and OTA files from Google’s developer site.
The update focuses on both security and usability. New features include Theft Detection Lock, which allows the phone to automatically lock if it senses theft, and Private Space, a secured area for storing sensitive apps and data that requires additional authentication. Android 15 also introduces satellite messaging capabilities, ensuring users can send texts even in areas without cellular coverage. Other usability improvements include partial screen recording, which lets users capture only specific apps instead of the entire display, and Bluetooth tile enhancements for easier device switching.
In terms of UI updates, Android 15 offers edge-to-edge content display, optimized for foldables and tablets, and smoother transitions for devices with high-refresh-rate screens. Google has also introduced a power-efficiency mode through its new Dynamic Performance Framework, ensuring that background apps use minimal resources, which could enhance battery life and prevent performance throttling
